S01E31 Kids Akin to Stemware

Transcript

<Intro music>

Hi, you’re listening to Alabaster Jars. A collection of perspectives on life and spirituality written by women, for women and read by women.

I’m Sheena and the title of today’s reading is “Kids Akin to Stemware”

The key verse for today is from Matthew chapter 18 verse 6

It says, (pause) “But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin,

 it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his

 neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

It was time to put the stemware into the china cabinet. I made sure I wasn’t rushed or anxious so I could take my time and be very careful. These particular glasses were special to me for two reasons: I loved the delicate pattern and exquisite simplicity of the stemware; and they were a gift from my favourite aunt.

Once all the pieces were carefully washed and dried, I carried them, one at a time, from the kitchen to the dining room. I chose the perfect spot for each to be showcased. A look of satisfaction must have covered my face as I gently closed the hutch.

A few minutes later, as I was walking through the dining room to admire my stemware once more, I saw it! One of the glasses, second from the end, was teetering to the left, threatening to destroy all the other glasses. There seemed to be a shifting of the floor that made the china cabinet unsteady. I was so glad to have caught the problem in time.

It made me think about my children. We don’t know what’s going to happen when we place our children on the shelves of life—be it school, other people’s homes and, yes, even at church.

We must be on guard and carefully watch over our children. They have been delicately designed by God and gently placed in our care. Let us make sure that nothing hurts our children so that, throughout eternity, they will be permanently placed in heaven’s showcase.
